Loading...
All NCAA member institutions, such as Heidelberg University, are required to annually gather information regarding the prior misconduct of any current, prospective, or transfer student, including a graduate student, who seeks to participate in intercollegiate athletics.
Specifically, any current, prospective, or transfer student-athlete, including a graduate student, must annually disclose whether they have been disciplined through a campus proceeding or had a criminal conviction for sexual, interpersonal or other acts of violence. This misconduct is defined as:
1. Interpersonal Violence: Violence that is predominantly caused due to the relationship between the victim and the perpetrator, including dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
2. Sexual Violence: A term used to include both forcible and nonforcible sex offenses, ranging from sexual battery to rape.
3. Other Acts of Violence: Crimes including murder, manslaughter, aggravated assault or any assault that employs the use of a deadly weapon or causes serious bodily injury.

Policies & Laws
PARTICIPATION IN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES TO INCLUDE ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION:
To be eligible to participate in a varsity sport program while attending Heidelberg University, the student-athlete, must be enrolled full-time, having at least 12 semester hours of courses per semester. Graduating seniors may be permitted to carry less than 12 credit hours per their final semester providing the class that remains is necessary for graduation and with approval by university Registrar.
SOCIAL MEDIA:
Student-athletes must be concerned with any behavior that might embarrass themselves, their teams, and /or Heidelberg University. This includes any activities conducted online. The student-athlete should be aware they are responsible for the content of anything they post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and/or any other type of social media site. Pictures and information posted on the internet and/or social media are considered public information. Pictures and information from these sources brought to the attention of university officials reasonably suggesting a violation of department handbook, university policy/NCAA violation has taken place on campus or at a university function off-campus will be subject to further investigation and verification by the University. Any department handbook, university policy/NCAA violation documented as a result of such an investigation will result in appropriate disciplinary action by the Athletics Department, the University, and/or the NCAA. Before participating in any online community, understand that anything, including messages or photos, posted online are available to anyone, anywhere, and is out of your control the moment it is posted. For the athlete’s safety, do not post home address, local address, phone number(s), birth date or other personal information, photos, or other items online that could embarrass you, your team, or Heidelberg University. This includes information, photos and items that may be posted by others on your page. The athlete should exercise caution as to what information is posted on their website about their personal activities or plans. You could be opening yourself up to predators. Remember that potential employers and internship supervisors may use these sites to screen candidates. Many graduate programs and scholarship committees now search these sites to screen applications. We advise student-athletes to exercise extreme caution in their use of social media websites.
GAMBLING:
The Athletics Dept. warns student-athletes to stay away from any type of gambling, including online gambling sites. The NCAA opposes all forms of legal and illegal sports wagering on college sports. Sports wagering includes placing, accepting or soliciting a wager (on a staff member’s or student-athletes own behalf or on the behalf of others) of any type with any individual or organization on any intercollegiate, amateur or professional team or contest. Examples of sports wagering include, but are not limited to, the use of a bookmaker or parlay card; Internet sports wagering; auctions in which bids are.
COLLIN’S LAW/HAZING
Collin's Law, also known as Ohio's Anti-Hazing Act, has been implemented in all colleges and universities, as of Oct. 2021, including Heidelberg. “Hazing” means doing any act or coercing another, including the victim, to do any act of initiation into any student or other organization or any act to continue to reinstate membership in or affiliation with any student or other organization that causes or creates a substantial risk of causing mental or physical harm to any person, including coercing another to consume alcohol or a drug of abuse as defined in section 3719.011 of the Revised Code. All student-athletes will be required to take an online training module on their own time. Heidelberg takes hazing very seriously and supports the updated and expanded Ohio State legislation on hazing. Our goal is for students to have a safe and positive experience while attending this institution. Any questionable concerns relative to hazing should be brought to the attention of the individual's head coach and the Athletic Director.
